Oppportunities to Give
Mommy and Me Literacy Program
Mommy and Me is our family literacy program that was started 3 years ago with 10 refugee women and their pre-school aged children. Today, the program now serves over 60 mothers and 70 children. We are in need more funds to keep the school open in 2010. *This is currently our area of greatest need.*
Operations
All of our staff members and operating expenses are sustained through the gifts of generous donors.
Adminstrative Needs
In order for program expansion to take place, we have some administrative needs. Some of those include:
Bookkeeper – In the near future, we need to hire a part-time Bookkeeper.
Youth Program Coordinator – We would like to hire a Youth Program Coordinator to expand our after-school programming and youth outreach with the Clarkston Community Center and to run Summer Spectacular.
Summer Spectacular 2010
Our summer camps are very popular among the refugee families. We typically have one-hundred children per week attend the day camps. However, our cost of running the day camp is approximately $25 dollars per child per week and most children are able to attend through scholarships generous donors provide. If you would like to sponsor a child, we’d be happy to send you a photo and information of the child you help send to camp.
Food and Clothing Distribution
Most refugees live below the poverty line. Each week, we pick up food and clothing to distribute to the refugees. This not only helps relieve some of their financial burden, but also provides good food and warm clothes necessary for good health.
Internships
Throughout the year, we invite college interns to help meet the demanding needs. As we are able, we subsidize the interns to help cover their expenses. We would be happy to set up your gift as a matching gift. Every dollar you give could be matched with every dollar raised for the interns.
